Bon Appetite!

Asian Turkey Burgers

Written By: Chris - Jul• 30•12

I came up with this recipe a few years ago when I wanted to incorporate some of my favorite flavors into a healthier version of a turkey burger.  It’s been a hit with a number of my friends and so this was one of the first dishes I ever actually “wrote down” and created a recipe so that others could enjoy!  It sounds different, but trust me with all of the textures and flavors it is a must try!  I hope you’ll love it too!

Ingredients:

1 lb ground Turkey
1 Large Onion
1 Tablespoon Teriyaki Sauce
1 Tablespoon Soy Sauce
2 Tablespoons light Brown sugar
1/2 Cup Panko Bread Crumbs
3 Tablespoons Fresh Cilantro
1 Garlic clove
1 small can – Mandarin oranges
1 Egg (I use egg beaters)
Salt & Pepper
1/2 cup sliced Toasted Almonds

Start by Sauteing onions until caramelized.  Allow to cool slightly while mixing together all other ingredients except oranges.

Once everything is incorporated, gently mix in oranges by hand.  Meat mixture will be moist, so be prepared to make patties at the grill or they will mush and stick.

Preheat grill and spray with non stick cooking spray.  Form into patties and place onto grill.

Grill over medium high until cooked thoroughly on one side.  Patties will take roughly 10 min or so on each side.  The sugar causes caramelizing and blackening, which enhances the flavor!

Top with light mayonnaise, chopped lettuce and cabbage and tomatoes.  The texture of the almonds and flavor of the orange really enhance the Asian ingredients!

We enjoyed these without a bun, but along side of a nice bottle of 2005 Pine Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley!

Enjoy!
Cheers!
