I love good old baked brown beans. I could honestly eat them straight out of the can cold, but they are just so much better if you doctor them up a bit! I often add cooked ground beef, but just by adding a few ingredients, it really makes them delicious!
I am often trying to find some side dishes to help stretch the meal when I have all of the kids, grandparents and friends over at one time! Don’t get me wrong, I love to host but I want to make sure that everyone get’s plenty to eat! I also happen to love baked beans and since Bill could care less if I never prepared them, I try to share when I have guests over.
1 Can (1 lb.) Bush’s Best Maple Cured Bacon Baked Beans (or your favorite cheap beans!)
1/2 Cup Red onion, chopped
1 Strip bacon
Chicken Stock (to get up bits off bottom of pan)
2 Tablespoons Soy Sauce
2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
1 Tablespoon Molasses
In small sauce pan, cook chopped onions and chopped bacon in a hot pan until crispy and browned.
Use Chicken stock to clean bottom of pan. Allow broth to evaporate and then add beans and their juice.
Stir in Soy Sauce and Brown sugar and cook for at least an hour. If you are grilling, place directly onto the grill covered allowing to get hot and bubbly! You can bake them as well, but not too long so they don’t dry out!
